Carpet Cleaning FAQ — Inglewood, CA

Common questions from homeowners in Inglewood and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.

How long until the carpet is dry and we can walk on it again?

Plan on four to eight hours for most rooms after hot-water extraction. Inglewood sits on the inland edge of the South Bay basin, roughly 3-4 miles from the Pacific, so the marine layer mornings keep indoor humidity up and stretch drying time, especially during May-June gloom. We run air movers and ask you to leave the HVAC fan on, which cuts hours off the wait. You can walk on damp carpet in clean socks right away; hold off on putting furniture back until it's dry to the touch.

Walk me through what actually happens on cleaning day.

We inspect the carpet first, check the fiber and backing, and point out anything that may not fully respond. Then we vacuum dry soil, move the furniture we've agreed to move, pretreat traffic lanes and spots, and let the solution dwell. Hot-water extraction follows, with a truck-mounted unit pulling the soil and most of the moisture back out. We finish by grooming the pile, setting air movers, and walking the rooms with you before we leave.

Hot-water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning: which one do I need?

Hot-water extraction is our default. It flushes soil out of the pile instead of pushing it around, and it's what Shaw, Mohawk and Stainmaster warranties generally expect. Shampooing has a place on heavily greased commercial carpet, though it leaves residue behind if it isn't extracted afterward. Low-moisture dry cleaning suits wool, some Karastan and Masland goods, and occupied units that can't be down for half a day. We'll tell you which method fits your carpet before we start.

Realistically, how often should carpet be cleaned?

Every 12 to 18 months covers a typical household. Inglewood homes near the flight paths south and east of LAX pick up jet exhaust particulate and brake dust, and the I-405, I-105 and La Cienega corridors push fine traffic soot indoors, so many of our customers go every 9 to 12 months. Pets, kids or a rental turnover push that shorter still. Most carpet manufacturers also require periodic professional cleaning to keep a warranty valid.

What determines the price, and how do I find out what mine will be?

Square footage is the starting point. After that it's the number of rooms and stairs, how soiled the carpet is, pet contamination, whether furniture needs moving, and whether the fiber calls for a specialty method. The estimate is free, and you get a firm quote in writing before anyone turns on a machine. If we find something during the walkthrough that changes the scope, we stop and re-quote rather than adding it to the bill.

Do your techs move the furniture?

Yes, within reason. Sofas, chairs, coffee tables, dining sets and light dressers get moved and set back on blocks or tabs. We leave pianos, large armoires, waterbeds, aquariums and anything with electronics wired into it, and we clean around those. If you clear the small items and breakables ahead of time, the crew spends its hours on carpet instead of packing.

What lifts out of carpet, and what is there to stay?

Food, drink, mud, grease, most pet accidents and general traffic soil usually come out, and the sandy, clay-loam grit tracked in around here releases well under extraction. Wine, coffee and pet urine respond best when they're fresh. What we can't promise: bleach and benzoyl peroxide spots, older dye stains from drink mixes, rust that's set, and areas where the fiber itself is worn or sun-faded. Those are damage rather than soil, and we'll say so plainly at the estimate instead of after.

Is any of this a problem for pets or small kids?

No. The solutions we use are water-based, low-residue and rinsed out of the pile during extraction. Keep pets and children in another room while hoses are running and the floor is wet, mostly to avoid slips and tangled equipment. Once the carpet is dry, the room is fine to use normally. Tell us if anyone in the house has asthma or fragrance sensitivity and we'll adjust the products.

Can you clean sofas, area rugs and tile floors too?

Yes. We clean upholstery, sectionals, dining chairs and mattresses, and we handle area rugs either on site or off site depending on the fiber and dyes. Wool and silk rugs get tested for colorfastness before anything wet touches them. Tile and grout cleaning is available as well. That matters in the stucco bungalows and postwar tract homes around Inglewood, where entry tile takes the worst of the outdoor grit. Bundling rooms and items into one visit is usually the cheaper way to go.

Do you have same-day openings, and which neighborhoods do you cover?

Same-day slots open up most weekdays, and morning calls have the best odds. We work throughout Inglewood and the surrounding parts of southwest Los Angeles County, including the 1950s-70s stucco apartment courts and dingbats where we handle move-outs on short notice. Fall Santa Ana weeks and the Nov-Mar rain months book up fastest, so call early in those stretches. Tell us the address and room count and we'll confirm a time on the phone.
